Aim:
To communicate the participative process between the Mattress Factory and artist that brings about the final creation and installation of an artwork.
Concept:
Visually illustrate the collaborative effort that makes possible the production and installation of an artist’s work at the MF. It is envisaged that a greater understanding of the support offered by the MF, to artists during the creative process, will give further value to and appreciation of the exhibited pieces (See figure 2).

Physical implementation of the Wayfinding Signs:
- Main exhibition space beside reception
- Inside the Elevator
- Relevant sign on each floor
Physical implementation of the Location (world map) Poster and Artist’s Process Poster
- Reception
- Elevator
Physical implementation of the Stickers:
- Interface Staff to distribute
- Patrons to wear
Verbal Scripts:
- Welcome Script that focuses on concise and significant exhibition information. This information will augment the wayfinding signage.
- Interface Staff Scripts to expand on the Artistic Process Poster (actual process) and sticker (artist information) when asked by patrons
Details:
- To design information that communicates how an art installation came to realization and how patrons may interact or behave within an exhibition space.
- Design with visual icons and illustrative information.
- Keep a consistency between the poster, stickers and exhibition information.
For Further Development:
- Design a welcome script.
- Design a MF sticker.
- Design a poster that supports the concepts voiced and visualized by the welcome script and sticker.
- Develop the concept of many hands and possibly communicate how many staff were involved, how long the process was and how many materials were involved. *We need to determine if this information is known or obtainable.
Material considerations:
- How many different types of sticker should be designed.
- How will the exhibition information be displayed?
Item 01 – Wayfinding
Build customer expectations via the simple and specific use of portable signage that is informative and relevant to current and permanent exhibitions.
- Create a large sign displaying information for each floor at the entrance
- Create a summary of the above information in the elevator
- Place the above information on each individual floor (5 levels)
- Revise the welcome script so that important information is highlighted.

Item 02 – Artistic Process
To be developed from Renna’s blueprint of the artist’s experience with the MF.
